Diatop

The Diatop project studies the possibility of preventing the onset of type 1 diabetes mellitus through the use of statins and the subsequent creation of a new molecule capable of producing similar effects. The scientific leaders of this project are Prof. Sandro Muntoni, associate of General Pathology of the Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Cagliari, Dr. Mauro Congia of the "Antonio Cao" Microcythemic Hospital, Prof. Francesco Secci of the Department of Chemical Sciences University of Cagliari, and Prof. Francesco Cucca of the Institute of Research, Genetics and Biomedical Sciences of the CNR - Cagliari Branch. The project, initially supported by the Foundation of Sardinia, is now co-financed by Diabetes Zero with its own resources also raised through 5×1000 and with regional funds under an agreement with Sardegna Ricerche.

The project received attention from the prestigious scientific journal "Frontiers in Immunology," which devoted an article to it, and in 2024 it was presented by Prof. Muntoni at the 60th annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) held in Madrid Sept. 9-13.

If you want, you can support Diabetes Zero!

We invite all those who wish to support the ZERO DIABETES Association to consider donating 5x1000 of their income tax to it.

Doing so involves no expense and is an option in addition to 8x1000 and 2x1000: it is not an alternative to these.
