A training weekend for families living with diabetes
From September 26-28, 2025, our third educational weekend for families of children and youth with diabetes was held at the Baia dei Pini Village in Budoni. More than 30 families, identified by the Pediatric Diabetes Centers of Ozieri, Alghero and Iglesias, took part.
The program included activities for all and others customized by role and age group (children/youth/parents).
All, however, were cared for by a multidisciplinary team, in keeping with national guidelines for diabetes management:
- four diabetologists (Antonella Correddu, Giovanna Lina Conti, Rosella Maccioni and Piera Scanu);
- two dieticians (Luciana Corgiolu and Adriana Medda);
- three psychologists (Martina Deidda, Alfonsa Ferreri and Francesca Garau);
- two nurses (Stefania Altea and Antonella Senis).
In more detail, the team trained and entertained young patients and parents, helping them explore their emotions and deepen their knowledge about diabetes with specific focus on hypoglycemia, physical activity, intercurrent diseases, and nutrition, especially carbohydrate counting.
It would not have been possible for Diabetes Zero to organize this intense weekend, which involved 100 people including families and staff, without the support of Agdia Nuoro and its president Antonio Farris. Fundamental was, in general, the collaboration between public and private entities, in particular, for the economic support of the Region of Sardinia, through the contribution referred to in Art. 8, paragraph 37 of Regional Law No. 48 of December 28, 2018, and the Municipality of Iglesias, which co-financed the participation expenses for families residing in its territory.
