The ReD - Retina and Diabetes project continues the work started with the previous "Eye on Diabetes" initiative, with the aim of raising awareness about the prevention of diabetic retinopathy and making early diagnosis and timely treatment services more accessible, especially in areas of Sardinia where the public health care network is weaker. Using telemedicine, Diabetes Zero organizes free retinal screening days in different locations in Sardinia. In addition, a dedicated outpatient clinic is available at the S. C. Ophthalmology Department of "San Michele" Hospital - Arnas "G. Brotzu" in Cagliari, run by a team of specialized ophthalmologists and equipped with technologically advanced equipment for diagnosis and treatment.

The scientific head of the project and contact person for this team is Dr. Roberta Sulis, medical director of Arnas "G. Brotzu." Diabetes Zero's partner in this activity is the Italian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired (UICI). The project is co-financed by the Regional Department of Labor and private companies. In the past, it has received support from the Foundation of Sardinia and currently Diabetes Zero supports part of its expenses thanks to 5×1000.
